Tomb Raider Anniversary review at GameAlmighty.
"Lara Croft has left an interesting mark on videogames in her more than a decade tenure in the industry. Despite whatever negative stereotypes she potentially helped further, Lara Croft’s debut 3D adventure over ten years ago changed platforming and adventure games forever. Super Mario 64 may have ushered in the 3D era on home consoles, but it was Tomb Raider that brought jumping puzzles and problem solving into three dimensions on the PC. Never before had exploring dangerous 3D environments been done so successfully. Despite being amazingly innovative for its time, the original Tomb Raider was by no means perfect, and unfortunately the series has had its share of highs and lows over the last several years. For the series’ ten year anniversary, Eidos commissioned Crystal Dynamics to remake Lara’s debut title, incorporating some new tricks she’s learned over the years and updating the game’s visuals. The result is a surprisingly successful remake that will satisfy series fans and serve as a great introduction for newcomers."
